Therapy for Low Self-Esteem & Shame

Low self-esteem is a very common presenting problem in therapy. It is often related to depression, anxiety, addiction and other issues. Typically folks with low self-esteem have an overactive “inner-critic,” and a highly developed sense of shame. In 2014, I completed the two-year Foundations in Clinical Mastery training program at the former Bay Area affiliate of the John Bradshaw Center. Bradshaw wrote the best-selling book Healing The Shame That Binds You which raised awareness across the nation on the issue of toxic shame. In my work with low self-esteem, I combine a strengths-based approach with education about shame and recovery from shame. My goal is always to help individuals develop greater self-acceptance and self-love. The combination of learning skills and regular contact with the nonjudgmental presence of a therapist can go a long way in helping us learn to accept ourselves. It is my sincere wish that everyone may be free of toxic shame. Contact me to discuss how therapy can help.
